South Park’s South America stunt is a three-layer roast: presidential renaming theater, big-tech compliance, and corporate media consolidation.

“Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to SOUTH AMERICA. We especially want to thank our parent company Paramount — a Skydance Capitulation.”

— Parker & Stone statement, September 8, 2026

WHO GOT ROASTED
  • Trump-era renaming pushes — “America” branding on major geography
  • Apple & Google Maps — reflecting new labels quickly for U.S. users
  • Paramount / Skydance — “Skydance Capitulation” jab in the same statement

The Trump renaming context

Reporting around the stunt points to efforts to frame waterways and places with “America,” including Lake Ontario referred to as “Lake America” amid trade tensions with Canada, and earlier Gulf of America messaging. Trump also floated “New America” rhetoric about New Mexico in social posts, according to multiple outlets covering the South Park announcement.

Parker and Stone have spent recent seasons heavily satirizing the administration. Winning a Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program only added fuel to the fire.

Why Apple and Google are in the crosshairs

If consumer maps adopt political renames at platform scale, the creators argue — through absurdist logic — that a TV title is fair game too. That is the entire engine of the joke. The “bravery and patriotism” line is pure sarcasm aimed at rapid compliance.

The Paramount / Skydance dig

Calling the parent company a “Skydance Capitulation” is a pointed jab at corporate consolidation and perceived willingness to bend to political pressure. It sits in the same tradition as earlier South Park episodes that mocked networks, studios, and advertisers.

Did South Park sue Donald Trump?

No. This announcement is satire, not a lawsuit filing. Do not confuse the gag with separate industry legal stories involving larger media companies.
