Millions of U.S. PlayStation owners are checking their accounts after news spread about a $7.85 million settlement that will deliver PlayStation Store credit automatically to eligible players.

The deal resolves a long-running antitrust class-action lawsuit against Sony Interactive Entertainment over how digital games were sold on the PlayStation Store. Searches for “sony playstation store credit settlement,” “playstation store,” and related terms have surged as gamers look for details on who qualifies and when the money arrives.
What the Lawsuit Was About
The case, Caccuri v. Sony Interactive Entertainment, alleged that Sony reduced competition by ending the sale of game-specific download vouchers through third-party retailers (such as Amazon, Best Buy, and GameStop) around April 2019. Plaintiffs claimed this forced more players to buy digital titles exclusively through the PlayStation Store and led to higher prices on certain games.
Sony has denied any wrongdoing. The settlement is not an admission of liability.

Who Qualifies for the Settlement?
You may be eligible if you:
- Are a U.S. resident
- Bought one or more qualifying digital games through the PlayStation Store between April 1, 2019, and December 31, 2023
- The game previously had a retail download voucher available before April 2019, with at least 200 redemptions, and its price rose by at least 50 cents after the policy change
Roughly 4.4 million accounts are estimated to be in the class. Active PSN accounts will receive credit automatically — no claim form is required for most people.
How Much Credit Will You Get?
Individual payouts are expected to be modest. After attorneys’ fees (up to 25%), costs, and service awards, the remaining fund will be divided among eligible purchases. Estimates have ranged from under $1 to as much as around $30+ per qualifying game, depending on the final allocation plan. Many players will likely see only a few dollars in total.
When Will the Credits Arrive?
Nothing is paid until a federal judge grants final approval. The fairness hearing is scheduled for October 15, 2026, before Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín in San Francisco. If approved and no major delays occur, credits should begin appearing in eligible PlayStation Network wallets sometime after the settlement becomes final.
Players with deactivated PSN accounts had a separate deadline (August 27, 2026) to request cash instead of store credit.
What You Need to Do
For most active account holders: nothing. You were automatically included. You can check the official settlement website (psndigitalgamessettlement.com) for the list of qualifying games and more details. Opt-out deadlines have already passed for those who wanted to pursue individual claims.
This settlement is separate from other ongoing discussions around digital game ownership and licensing language on the PlayStation Store.

PlayStation set aside 7.85 million for a settlement. If you bought digital games through the store, you might be owed a cut. Claims like this are usually small per person. But free money is free money, so go check if you qualify.
