Many beginners think strength training requires dumbbells, machines, or a gym membership. That is not true.
Your own body weight is enough to build a strong foundation — especially in the first 3–6 months.
Why Bodyweight Training Works for Beginners
It teaches control, balance, and proper movement patterns. You also reduce injury risk because you cannot load the joints as heavily as with free weights.
The Basic Exercises You Need
- Squats – builds legs and glutes
- Push-ups (or knee push-ups) – chest, shoulders, triceps
- Glute bridges – posterior chain
- Plank variations – core stability
- Superman holds – lower back strength
- Lunges – single-leg strength and balance
Simple 3-Day Beginner Plan
Day 1 & Day 3: Squats, Push-ups, Glute bridges, Plank (3 rounds)
Day 2: Lunges, Superman holds, Side planks, Marching in place (3 rounds)
Rest at least one day between sessions when starting out.
Progression Tips
When an exercise becomes easy, slow down the tempo or add a pause at the bottom. You can also increase the number of rounds before adding harder variations.
Final Note
Consistency with basic movements beats complicated programs you never finish. Master these first, then decide if you want to add equipment later.
